Deadline on the Island until the end of January 2021?

The English Football Clubs Association (EFL) is reportedly in the midst of negotiations on a change of deadline due to the pandemic of a new coronavirus, according to the British BBC. This one should start after the end of this year’s competitions on the Island and last until the end of January 2021.

Most clubs in the EFL are in favor of the idea, although it is unclear when the season will be over at all. Two weeks ago, the association said in a press release that the season could be completed within 56 days of the relaunch, while the competent authorities in the Island had not yet set guidelines for starting football at the highest levels. On Wednesday, a meeting was held between representatives of the EFL, the English Football Federation and the Premier League leadership, extending the transfer deadline was a major item on the agenda. According to Portsmouth Executive Board Director Mark Catlin, more leeway could help mostly smaller clubs, which are facing more and more financial upheaval due to the coronation crisis. At the same time, with the uncertainty of the fate of this year’s competition, questions arise as to what will become of the existing contracts and what will be the team’s budgets for the coming season, with a longer leap term to help in the transition to the next competition periods. As the International Football Federation (Fifa) makes the final decisions regarding changes to the deadlines, the EFL should first have a vote before implementing the changes by the umbrella football body.

Fifa, via a press spokeswoman, reportedly told the BBC that she would be “flexible in making the final decisions, advocating for the regularity and integrity of the competition and helping to relaunch the championships fairly.”
